Our favorite creamy, cheesy, and garlicky scalloped potatoes recipe. One of the easiest, classic and delicious side dished out there! Thinly sliced potatoes are layered in an easy cream sauce, topped with cheese, and baked to perfection.

My family and I have been making this recipe for years. Soft the tender on the inside and creamy and cheesy on the outside. Scalloped potatoes pair perfectly with any main dish.

What you will need for this recipe:

Potatoes– for this recipe, we like to use Yukon Gold potatoes or russet potatoes, but any potato kind will work great for this recipe!

Kosher salt– use kosher salt in this recipe.

Shredded cheese– we used white cheddar cheese for this recipe. Any type of your favorite melty cheese will work for this recipe, like cheddar cheese, mozzarella, gouda, fontina, gruyere, etc.

Fresh garlic– fresh garlic gives the best garlicky taste.

Spices for the cream sauce– for the cream sauce we added kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Heavy cream– to make the cream sauce we used heavy cream.



How to make scalloped potatoes

1.   Preheat an oven to 200c (400f).

2.   Make the cream sauce: In a small mixing bowl mix together fresh garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and heavy cream. Mix well.

3.   Peel and slice the potatoes into thin slices.

4.   Layer the potatoes (as seen in the video) in the baking pan.

5.   Spread an even layer of cream sauce on top of the potatoes.

6.   Spread an even layer of grated cheese on top.

7.   Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 50-75 minutes until the potatoes are cooked through.

8.   Remove the aluminum foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown.

9.   Top with fresh parsley and serve hot.
