These chocolate chip cookie fries are soft and gooey on the inside with golden, crispy edges and perfect for dipping in chocolate, caramel, or Nutella!
Add the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking soda. Use a rubber spatula to fold the ingredients together just until a dough forms.
Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate chunks until evenly distributed.
Shape and Freeze
Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy lifting.
Transfer dough into the dish and press down firmly with your fingers or the back of a measuring cup into a flat, uniform square roughly ½ inch thick.
Place the pan in the freezer for 45 to 60 minutes until the dough block is frozen solid.
Slice into Fries
Use the parchment overhang to lift the frozen square dough block onto a large cutting board.
Using a long, sharp chef's knife, cut the square down the middle, then slice into long, thin strips about ½ inch wide to form uniform fry shapes.
Bake from Frozen
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Transfer the frozen cut fries to the baking sheets, leaving about 1 to 1.5 inches of space between each fry. Keep any remaining unbaked fries in the freezer while the first batch bakes.
Bake directly from frozen for 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are light golden brown.
Immediately upon pulling the pan from the oven, use a flat bench scraper or metal spatula to gently nudge any warm edges straight back into perfect fry lines before they set.
Let the fries sit on the hot baking sheet for 8 to 10 minutes to firm up before moving them.
Make the Chocolate Dipping Sauce
Pour heavy cream into a small microwave-safe bowl and heat until steaming, about 30 to 45 seconds.
Add the chopped dark chocolate to the hot cream. Let sit undisturbed for 2 minutes, then whisk continuously until smooth, glossy, and thick.
Pour sauce into a small bowl and serve warm alongside your cookie fries!
Notes
Freeze Before Slicing: Freezing the dough block solid for at least 45 to 60 minutes is essential. Soft dough will stick to your knife, smush under pressure, and lose its clean fry shape in the oven. Always cut straight from frozen.Use Mini Chips or Chopped Chocolate: Standard-sized chocolate chips create hard lumps in frozen dough, causing the fries to crack or crumble when sliced. Mini chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate bars allow your knife to glide straight through smoothly.Measure Flour Correctly: Fluff your flour with a fork, spoon it gently into your measuring cup, and level it off with the back of a knife (or weigh it in grams). Packing flour down directly with the measuring cup will yield dry, cakey fries that won't hold their soft centers.Reshape Immediately After Baking: Cookies naturally round out as they bake. The moment you pull the pan from the oven, use a flat bench scraper or metal spatula to gently press the warm sides straight back into crisp, 90-degree fry edges before they set.Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your egg and butter are softened to room temperature before mixing. Cold eggs will cause melted or creamed butter to curdle, resulting in an uneven dough texture.Butter Substitution: If using salted butter instead of unsalted, omit the added salt in the recipe dough entirely.
