List of our favorite cake decorating tools
1 - Cake Board
This one makes your life easy. When I make cakes for special occasions like birthdays, or holidays, this makes it easy to slide your cake and move it from place to place.
Here is the cake board set that I use.
2 - Turntable
The cake turntable is a total game changer. It makes it easy to frost the cake and see all its angels by moving the turntable to the angle you need.
I think it's worth investing in this one from Ateco. It's heavy duty and will last you for a very long time.
If you are on a budget, I would recommend this one by Kootek.
3 - Cake scraper
Cake scrapper is another cake decorating tool that is a must. I use this to smooth out the sides of the cake. Cake scrapers have a firm blade that can give your frosting a flawless smooth look.
This is an essential that most cake decorator use to perfect their cakes. There are a few shapes and textures for cake scrappers.
Here is the one that we use. Click HERE for the link.
4 - Acrylic Disk
The acrylic disk is essential for getting a smooth cake. I see a lot of bakers and cake artists use acrylic disks to make their cakes flawless. These clear acrylic disks allow you to create a beautiful and flawless finish on your cakes easily.

5 - High-quality cake pans
I cannot stress enough how high-quality cake pans are important. We usually use our Fat Daddio's cake pans that we got from amazon. They are highly rated cake pans and you can find them in so many different sizes and depths.
The highly used cake pan that we use for making cake layers is THIS 8-inch cake pan. We bought 3 of these to make a 3-layer cake.
6 - Cake lifter
Cake lifter is a great tool to transfer your cake from your turntable to a cake stand easily. It will make your life easier and less stressful.
Here is the LINK for the one that we use.
7 - Stand mixer
Okay, so I have two favorite stand mixers. They are both awsome for making cake batters, whipping, and kneading. The first one is the classic kitchenaid one. It has so many 5 star reviews, and its a highly recommended one.
Here is a LINK for the more affordable kitchenaid mixer. If you dont own a stand mixer yet, this is your sign to invest in one! You wont regret.
The second one and my personal favorite is my Bosch Universal Plus Stand Mixer. It has a different shape than most mixers, but it love it. Here is a LINK for the Bosch mixer.
8 - Piping bags
Piping bags are so important to decorate cakes. Both for distributing the frosting evenly, and pipe beautiful details on the cake.
Here is my FAVORITE one, you get 100 disposable piping bags. Its super conbinient and easy to use.
If you would like a reusble one, I recommend THIS one from Ateco. Its heavy duty and easy to use.
9 - Drip bottle
Drip bottle is a great and easy way to make drips around the edges of your cake. Here is the one I use and love from wilton, click HERE for the link.
10 - Spatulas
Spatulas are a must for decorating cakes. There are two spatulas that are the most popular. Offset spatula is the first one. Click HERE for the link for our favorite set of offset spatulas.
The second spatula is the straight icing spatula. Here is a LINK for our favorite straight spatula set.

There are plenty of piping tips for decorating cakes. Our personal favorite is wilton's 1M, 2D, 8B, 4B, 1A, 104, and so many more.

12 - Electric hand mixer
We used our electric hand mixer for almost every single recipe. We use it to whip whipped cream, and butter, mix cake batter, make cookie dough, make cupcakes, etc. Here is the one that we love using from kitchenaid for all of our recipes.
13 - Cake leveler
To make sure that your cakes are extra flat and straight, use a cake leveler! There are many tutorial for how to use it on youtube. I personally love using it and recommend it.
Here is a LINK for our favorite cake leveler.
14 - Cake strips
Our biggest tip to make even cake layers is to use a scale and cake strips. Weigh the chocolate cake batter and divide it into two even pans.
Then use cake strips to make sure your cake layers bake evenly and don’t develop a dome on top.
Cake strips give you an evenly baked cake with a flat top.
Expert tips for making cakes
- Use cake strips! Cake strips give you even and perfectly baked cake layers. Click here for the amazon link.
- Use room temperature ingredients. It is important that you use room-temperature ingredients like eggs and butter. This step ensures that your mixture mixes into a homogenous mixture and bakes perfectly. you don’t want to place cold batter into the oven.
- Measure your flour correctly! When measuring your flour, avoid scooping it with a measuring cup. Instead, stir the flour with a spoon to create as many air pockets as possible, and spoon it into your measuring cup. Finally, level it with a back of a knife.
- Don’t overmix the batter, you don’t want to develop the gluten in the flour. This step ensures you have a moist cake and not a dense and dry cake.
- Line your baking pan with parchment paper! This step helps the cake to bake evenly, and it makes sure that your loaf cake will release easily from the pan.
- Be patient! I know it’s extremely tempting to frost this cake as it is pulled out of the oven, but let the cake cool for at least 1 hour so it will be more firm and won’t crumble up, and prevent the frosting from melting.
