Why this recipe works
- 4 ingredient- this whole cobbler recipe uses only 4 simple ingredients: canned peaches in syrup, butter, flour, and sugar.
- Flavor- this peach cobbler has a delicious fresh peach flavor and buttery and crispy topping that goes perfectly with the vanilla ice cream.
- Texture- the juicy peaches and buttery and crunchy topping creates the most delicious bite of soft and crunchy with the creamy melt in your mouth vanilla ice cream.
- All season long- not peach season? no problem. This dessert is made with canned peaches in syrup so it's a perfect recipe for all year round.
- Ease- This recipe couldn't be easier! It is made with only 4 ingredients and takes a few minutes to prepare. All you have to do is throw all the ingredients into a baking dish and wait for it to bake.
Ingredients
Before you start to make this peach cobbler with canned peaches recipe, measure and prepare your ingredients so the cooking process will go smoothly and easily.
Full measurements are in the recipe card below.
Canned peaches- you will want to use either canned peaches in syrup or juice. They are pre-sweetened which makes this recipe easier! It is important that you drain all the excess liquids from the peaches.
Granulated sugar– I use granulated sugar, which is also the most common sugar used in baking. Caster sugar will work great as well.
Flour– I used all-purpose flour for this recipe. cake flour will work great as well.
Butter- use unsalted butter for this recipe. Only butter will work for this recipe, no margarine, and no coconut oil. Margarine has a weird taste and can ruin the flavor of this dessert.
Instructions
Preheat an oven to 180c (350) and prep a nonstick baking dish with melted butter.
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and sugar, and mix it with a whisk until well combined.
Drain the canned peaches from the liquids, slice them into thick slices, and transfer them into a baking dish. Sprinkle the flour mixture on top of the peaches into an even layer.
Cut the butter into thin slices and top the flour layer with the sliced butter evenly. The butter will melt in the baking process with the flour mixture which will create a crunchy and buttery topping that is irresistible.
Bake in a 180c (350f) preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy and the peaches are bubbly.
Allow the cobbler to cool for 15 minutes to allow the filling to set. Top it with vanilla ice cream and serve warm for the most perfect and quick dessert.
Expert Tips
- For more delicious flavor, add spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or cardamon. Also, you can add 1-2 teaspoon of vanilla extract or almond extract.
- Select high-quality canned peaches in a sweet syrup. The syrup will infuse your cobbler with a rich, fruity flavor, so don't skimp on this key ingredient.
- Set your oven to the right temperature and keep a close eye on the cobbler as it bakes. The top should be golden brown and the filling should be bubbly.
- Resist the temptation to dive in right away. Let the cobbler cool for at least 15 minutes before serving, as this will allow the flavors to meld and the filling to thicken.
- Use cold butter for this. This will make it easier to slice the butter and top the flour and sugar mixture with thin slices of butter evenly. If the butter is soft, it will be hard to slice the butter evenly and will make a mess.
- Serve the cobbler warm with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The contrast of hot and cold is simply divine.
- For extra crunch, add chopped nuts of your choice on top of the cake mix like chopped pecans, almonds, or walnuts.
Faq's
The main distinction lies in the topping - peach crisp features a crunchy, streusel-like topping, while peach cobbler has a biscuit or dumpling-style topping. This gives each dish a unique texture and flavor.
My biggest tip to prevent a soggy cobbler is to drain all liquid from the fruit. If you are using canned fruit or if you are using fresh fruit, you have to drain all the excess liquids to get a really crispy topping.
The key to a truly exceptional cobbler lies in the perfect balance of juicy fruit and a golden, buttery topping.
Whether crowned with a flaky pastry crust or a tender biscuit-like topping, a cobbler is the ultimate comfort food.
Yes! If you use fresh peaches for this recipe, peel and cut them into slices, then add a little bit of sugar, depending on how sweet they are, and a little bit of cornstarch and cinnamon.
Storing
Store this cobbler in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. According to the FDA, you can store it in an airtight container for up to 2 days, but its best stored in the fridge.
Freezing
To freeze this cobbler, I suggest baking it in a foil baking pan, letting it cool completely, covering it with a few layers of plastic wrap and foil, and freezing it for up to 2 months.
Thaw in the fridge for a few hours or let it sit at room temperature for 1 hour or so.
When you're ready to indulge, just take a portion out of the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight. You can then reheat it in the oven until warm and bubbly.
Substitutions
Dairy-free- to make this cobbler dairy-free and vegan, replace the butter with vegan butter.
Gluten-free- to make this recipe gluten-free, replace the flour with gluten-free flour.
Peaches- you can use fresh peaches if you like. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar if they are not extremely sweet.
Frozen peaches- you can use frozen peaches instead of canned peaches. Do not thaw them before using them.
Variations
Spices- add your favorite spices for peach cobbler! Like nutmeg, cloves, pumpkin spice, ginger, etc.
Individuals- make these into individual peach cobblers by dividing the mixture and baking them into little ceramic souffle ramekins. Make sure that you keep an eye on that they won't burn.
Fruit- spice up this recipe and add your favorite berries to the peach mixture. This will give this dessert a new flavor!
Nuts- add your favorite nuts to the mixture. We love adding chopped pecans or sliced almonds.
Serving Tips
Whipped Cream- Add a dollop of whipped cream on a slice of the cobbler to create a light and creamy texture that complements the fruity flavors.
Compote topping- Drizzle a homemade or store-bought fruit compote of your choice over the top of the cobbler for an added burst of flavor and visual appeal.
Vanilla ice cream- add a large scoop of ice cream next to a slice of this cobbler.

I made this recipe today and it was by far the easiest one I have ever made, I want to try the 3 ingredients recipe next.
That being said I really enjoyed this recipe and will definitely make it again. I did do a couple of things differently; I did have to make the self rising flour because I didn't have any and I added vanilla and cinnamon to my peaches as well as adding a little of the peach juice to the peaches before adding the flour and sugar mix. I was worried about the cobbler being dry because of setting aside the juice from the cans, I used two can of the Del Monte Peaches in 100% juice.
When it cooled I added vanilla ice cream and a little caramel sauce on top and I have to say it was wonderful. Being from Texas having peach cobbler especially in the summer is something that we did on a regular basis. Now I can make it whenever I have a craving for it because it doesn't take an hour or so to get it done.
Thank you so much for this recipe I will enjoy for a long time.
