Ingredients
Before you start to make this recipe, measure and prepare your ingredients so the cooking process will go smoothly and easily.
Full measurements are in the recipe card below.
Oreo cookies- we used Oreo cookies for this cake because we like the chocolaty taste of Oreo cookies, but you can use any kind of chocolate sandwich cookies. Use the regular Oreos for this recipe and not the double-stuffed ones.
Cream cheese- use full-fat cream cheese, and make sure that it’s at room temperature. We suggest using whole-fat cream cheese for this recipe.
Candy melts- we used a combination of semisweet chocolate and white chocolate candy melts. Make this recipe your own and use your favorite flavor of candy melts!
Instructions
Start by crushing the Oreos. The best way to crush Oreos is in a food processor or in a blender. If you don't have a food processor or a blender, place the Oreos in a ziplock bag and smash them with a cup until fine crumbs form.
Add the room temperature cream cheese into a big mixing bowl, and mix with an electric hand mixer for 2-3 minutes or until the cream cheese is creamy and silky. Add the oreo crumbs to the cream cheese and mix until well combined.
Use a small cookie scoop to scoop out the balls (or about 1 tbsp). Roll them into balls using your hands and place them onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
Freeze the balls for about 20 minutes so they will not crumble when you dip them into the chocolate.
Melt the chocolate and mix it until it's smooth and silky without any lumps. Place each oreo on a fork or a spoon and gently dip it into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to drizzle more chocolate on top.
My favorite trick to make these smooth and flawless is to dip each ball into the melted chocolate, drizzle the melted chocolate with another spoon until it's nicely coated, and then tap the excess chocolate by tapping the fork or the spoon on the side of the bowl.
Carefully place each oreo ball onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. I like to use a small skewer to help place the truffles on the baking sheet.
If you are using oreo crumbs for decoration, immediately sprinkle the crumbs on top of the truffles so the crumbs will stick to the chocolate.
Place the chocolate-coated truffles in the fridge to firm up for about 30 minutes.
We like to drizzle white chocolate on the semisweet chocolate-covered balls and on the white chocolate-covered balls.
Expert Tips
- Add some of your favorite add-ins! Make this recipe your own and add your favorite muffins add-ins: chocolate chips, chopped walnuts, chopped pecans, chocolate chunks, M&M, caramel sauce, white chocolate, kinder, toffee, and more! Be creative!
- Make sure you line your baking pan with parchment paper to prevent the truffles to stick to the pan.
- Make sure that your cream cheese is at room temperature. An hour or two before making these treats, take the cream cheese out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature. The cream cheese should be soft to the touch. If your cream cheese is too cold, it will be harder to mix and there will be lumps in the batter of the truffles.
- Use a cookie scoop to scoop out the balls, that way you will have even-sized balls, plus it ensures that your balls cool evenly.
- Keep them chilled in the fridge before serving. if you place the balls at room temperature, the chocolate may melt.
- Use whole fat cream cheese. Don't use low fat in this recipe. light cream cheese can be not as rich in flavor and not as creamy.
- Use regular Oreos for this recipe. Don't use double-stuffed Oreos for this recipe, the double-stuffed Oreos contain too much stuffing and it will ruin your truffles.
Faq's
These will last up to 5 days stored in an airtight container in the fridge. Cover the balls with plastic wrap or foil to prevent them from drying out.
Yes. If you don't want to use candy melts, you can simply use chocolate bars. We suggest using the highest quality chocolate that you can find and afford.
Yes! if you don't have a food processor or a blender, place the Oreos in a ziplock bag and smash them with a cup until fine crumbs form.
Mix the softened cream cheese with a whisk or a wooden spoon until it's creamy, then add the oreo crumbs.
There are a few ways to melt chocolate. We like to use the microwave. If you will use the microwave, you will have to be careful that the chocolate won't burn.
Before I knew how to melt chocolate in the microwave, I burned it a few times and I didn't understand what happened.
Simply microwave your chocolate or candy melts in small bursts. Really small bursts 10-20 seconds each time. Stir the chocolate in between every burst until the chocolate is nice and melted.
Storing
Store this dessert in the fridge (because it contains dairy) covered tightly with plastic wrap for up to 5 days.
Freezing
To freeze these, you will need to wrap the balls in plastic wrap or foil, sealed in an airtight container or in an airtight resealable bag. You can freeze these for up to 2 months.
Substitutions
Gluten-free - if you want to make this recipe gluten-free, simply replace the Oreos with gluten-free Oreos.
Dairy-free- to make this dairy-free, replace the cream cheese with vegan plant-based cream cheese.

How to dip the balls in the chocolate?
